I know i am touching a very sensitive issue, I hope i don't get jailed for talking about this openly. If you have read the NEW paper in the morning today, it had a article of Pck child. He was rude to his senior officers so he was charged. He had other bad conduct as well so he had to bear with it. I am just sad that the army goes down very hard with its soldiers. How many of the men in Singapore look forward to National service? I have had brothers, friends who would dread to go to camp. I agree that National service teaches these men responsibility and they come to the world as matured adults. The men share something in common. THE ARMY MEMORIES.
When I sit amidst of army men, they speak in their own lingo, that's how fantastic the army has moulded them. The other part which disappoints me, The use of profanities. I do not understand why the army cannot treat the men with respect. "WHAT THE FUK U DOING"? "IS THIS HOW U FUKING TOK TO ME?". i feel very disturbed. How would you expect the young men looking forward to national service? are you just going to say, that's the army, u have to live with it? what feeling do you get when you screw someone? SHIOK?!
Soldiers have hearts. They can feel. I am not saying set up a heaven and let them be angels. The least can be done is GIVE AND TAKE RESPECT. you have authority, people would look up to you naturally. ARMY MEMORIES are the ones that last through a singaporean guy's life. They get a first wife when they enter the army. They get buddies who last a lifetime. They treasure their uniform ( my dad refuses to throw his).
Not many, like the army life. They hate it! and bitch about it becos of their bad experiences. I am not taking sides. The army has pros and cons. I just hope they will look at the men, as gifts to the country, encourage and bring them up rather than insult and crush them down!
